Founded by Pastor Tom McMillan and a group of believers from Westwood Baptist Church in Springfield, Virginia, in 1983, South Run met in Newington Forest Elementary School until property was purchased and the current building was constructed in 1988.
Pastor Tom, a former SBC missionary to Africa, established South Run on a mission model. He designed it so that every member has a ministry. He equipped leaders. He released them and empowered them to lead. This is still the dynamic nature of the church today.
South Run is a refreshing mix of people from all kinds of backgrounds. We are the Body of Christ. We are the Family of God. Some are exploring. Some are new to the faith. Some are from one faith background or another, but all seek a place where God is at work; a place to belong, to relate, to love and be loved, to grow in Christ and to serve. For these, South Run is it. We hope it is for you too.
Wayne Jenkins is the third full-time senior pastor to serve South Run. Pastor Wayne came to South Run in May of 2003.
South Run supports national and international missions through the Cooperative Program of the Southern Baptist Convention. Affiliated with the NorthStar Church Network, South Run links with other churches to reach Northern Virginia for Christ and it supports The Lamb Center in Fairfax, Virginia to minister to local needs outside the reach of the congregation.
