What about first time guests?
Parking spaces at the front of the building are reserved for you. A friendly person will greet you at the door and will guide you and your family to suitable Sunday School classes or to the worship service. A Newcomer Sunday School Class is offered inform you about the church.
What is available for adults on Sunday mornings?
Most adults attend Sunday School class which are discussion based Bible Study groups. The first way to get to know people at South Run is in a Sunday School class. While adults are in their classes, Sunday School is also offered for babies, preschoolers, children and youth.
What is worship like at South Run?
Worship is multi-dimensional at South Run. The service is led by a worship team consisting of vocals, drums, guitar, piano and keyboard. Words to songs and scripture are projected to facilitate participation. Pastor Wayne preaches sermons designed to practically apply Jesus Christ to everyday living. Children, youth and college students regularly have roles in worship leadership.

How do I become a member of South Run?
You are welcome to be a permanent and vital part of South Run. Members are accepted in three ways: by profession of faith in Jesus Christ and baptism; by transfer of membership from another church; or by statement of faith and previous baptism. At the conclusion of most worship services, we offer a time of commitment so that anyone desiring to join the church or share other spiritual decisions may do so.
How can I be baptized?
South Run practices Believer's Baptism. We baptize by emersion which is a portrayal of the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. Baptism publicly declares that you have personally received Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord and that you commit your life to loving Him, following Him and serving Him.
How should I dress?
Dress comfortably. You will see everything from jeans and shorts to business casual.
What about my kids?
South Run has an exciting children's ministry. Children are welcome and valued. Sunday School is for all ages from birth through adults. During worship, childcare is provided from birth through 3 years of age. Children age four through second grade attend Children's Church during the latter half of the morning worship service. On Wednesday nights children have mission groups called RA's for boys, GA's for girls, and Mission Friends for younger children. Childcare is provided for babies and toddlers. A variety of children's activities and programs, such as Easter Egg Hunt, Vacation Bible School, Summer Camp and Trunk or Treat are offered throughout the year.
Does South Run have an active youth ministry?
Absolutely, the youth ministry is very active and is continually growing. Youth ministry reaches out to several area high schools and middle schools. Youth meet weekly on Sunday evenings at 6:00 pm for D.O.G. Pound and on Wednesday evenings at 6:45 pm for Bible Study. On Monday afternoons youth go to an elementary school in Anacostia to conduct Homework Club. Special youth events are held several times per month. Youth go to Centrifuge and on a Mission Trip in the summer.
Does South Run have a Small Group Ministry?
Yes. The starting point of the small group ministry is Sunday School. In addition, two Sunday nights per month, members gather in homes for Koinonia Nights designed to strengthen, deepen and expand the fellowship of the church.
Does South Run offer a Women's Ministry?
Yes, the Women's Ministry is very active. It offers three weekly Bible studies: Monday mornings at 9:30am, Monday evenings at 7:00pm and Thursdays at 7:30pm. Childcare is provided on Monday morning. Other women's activities include luncheons, dinners, teas, prayer sessions, retreats and seminars.
Does South Run have a Men's Ministry?
Yes. Hank Dodge is Men's Ministry Team leader. Men have Prayer Breakfasts and Fellowship Lunches throughout the year. Men are vitally involved in virtually every mission and ministry of the church.
What version of the Bible does South Run use?
On Sunday morning we use several modern translations to make the Word of God clear and accessible to all. The Bibles in the pew racks are NIV. Individual members choose whatever version they prefer for personal use.
What size is South Run?
We like to say that South Run is "right sized". Everyone is on the front line here. People are connected and committed. Membership is around 300. Worship attendance averages around 175. Sunday School attendance averages around 125.
Does South Run have an intern program?
Yes. Every summer South Run employs college and/or seminary students to learn ministry by doing ministry under the guidance of Pastor Wayne and a Summer Ministry Resource Team.
Can I get married at South Run?
South Run is a pretty place for a wedding. However, we believe that the marriage is more important than the wedding. We want to prepare you for marriage. If you and your fiancee are willing to go through a series of premarital counseling sessions with Pastor Wayne and if will commit to regularly attend South Run for support and encouragement during your engagement and for the first year of your marriage, we will be happy to discuss wedding plans with you.
Who can be a deacon at South Run?
Deacons are servants, ministers. Deacons are elected by the church. Any adult church member who meets spiritual and scriptural qualifications and is elected to serve as a deacon may do so.

How can I serve at South Run?
South Run is a ministering church. Our expectation is, "Every member a minister". Every ministry is lay-led. During the Newcomer Class you will learn about ministries at work at South Run and you will explore the vision, mission and purpose of South Run. You will receive a Spiritual Gift Inventory. You are invited to join the ministry team that best utilizes your gifts, talents and skills.
