July 12-16, 2010
Day One - July 12
The first day at VBS got off to a great start with worship songs and an appearance by Sailor Jack. At Clipper Ship Crafts, kids made a Buddy Keeper, a ship in a bottle to which a sea creature will be attached each day. Today we attached a rat with a compass, which reinforced toda
y's theme: God's Word is True! A variety of activities at a station called Ship Rec Games allowed kids to learn each other's names and get to know one another. At Goodies from the Galley, kids ate a snack mix. Each food item represented something from that day's bible story, which was about Peter. Peter was put in jail for telling others about God, and God set him free. The pretzels represented the prison bars of Peter's jail cell, marshmallows represented angels, and more! We learned more about this bible story at Bible Voyage. At Sail Away Cinema, kids watched part one of Chadder Chipmunk's High Seas Adventure. We received blue bracelets that reminded us to watch for God: to find things God does every day in our lives. The day ended with the Floating Finale, complete with worship songs.

Day Two - July 13
On day two of VBS, the kids added a dolphin to the Buddy Keeper they made on Monday during Clipper Ship Crafts. The dolphin, holding an anchor, reinforced today's theme: God's Word is Comforting! Also at crafts, the kids made their own ship in a bottle by making a small ship and attaching a string with a small bolt as a weight. When the ship was put into a water bottle filled about halfway with water, the boat stayed upright no matter how much the bottle was shaken. This demonstrated how God's Word will help keep us upright, like an anchor does for a boat. At Bible Voyage, the kids sat in a "ship" and learned more about how God's Word can be comforting even when a "storm" came and the kids got sprayed with water! At Goodies from the Galley, everyone enjoyed ice pops, and at Sail Away Cinema, we watched part two of Chadder Chipmunk's High Seas Adventure. At Ship Rec Games, the kids played a variety of fun activities, including an obstacle course where we had to work together to push a beach ball up a hill using only a mop. At the Floating Finale, it was announced that the kids on the Yellow crews were in the lead in collecting school supplies for ECHO, which supports people in need.

Day Three - July 14
The third day's theme at VBS was that God's Word is Surprising. At Clipper Ship Crafts, kids added a monkey holding a spy glass to their Buddy Keeper as well as making a surprising craft. At Goodies from the Galley, kids ate cookies with a surprise piece of chocolate inside. Ship Rec Games was also full of surprises, including the game Drip Drip Drop, which was a variation of Duck Duck Goose, except whoever was chosen to be goose was drenched in a cupful of water! The bible story the kids learned today at Bible Voyage was about Paul. Paul was on an island where all of the snakes supposedly had a deadly bite, but when a snake bit Paul, he did not die. The people on the island thought Paul was a god because he survived, but Paul did not die because of God. At Sail Away Cinema, kids watched part three of Chadder Chipmunk's High Seas Adventure. The day ended with the Floating Finale, complete with worship songs.
Day Four - July 15
On day four of VBS, the kids added a pelican to the Buddy Keeper they made on Monday during Clipper Ship Crafts. The pelican reinforced today's theme: God's Word is Life-Changing! Also at crafts, the kids made anchors out of tissue paper so that when put up to a window, light shines through. At Bible Voyage, the kids learned that Jesus died for us so that our sins would be forgiven. At Goodies from the Galley, everyone enjoyed pretzels and heart-shaped cheese. At Sail Away Cinema, we watched part four of Chadder Chipmunk's High Seas Adventure. At Ship Rec Games, the kids played a variety of fun activities, including trying to balance a cup of water on their heads. Another game was a version of freeze tag where the people who were "it" used squirt bottles to "freeze" kids. The day ended the same way it began: with worship songs!

Day Five - July 16
The final day's theme at VBS was that God's Word is for Everyone. At Clipper Ship Crafts, kids added a spider named Lacy to their Buddy Keeper as well as making a snow globe with a picture of a clipper ship inside. At Goodies from the Galley, kids ate ice pops. Chadder Chipmunk's High Seas Adventure came to its conclusion at Sail Away Cinema. At Ship Rec Games, kids played a variety of games that involved teamwork, such as trying to get a beach ball around the edge of a huge parachute everyone was holding onto. At Bible Voyage, kids looked back on all of the bible stories they had learned this week. The Floating Finale closed out the day.
