Adult Ministry
Adults at South Run have ever increasing opportunities to learn, grow and serve. Adults at South Run are from all kinds of faith and social backgrounds. They are on various levels of spiritual maturity. Most adults at South Run are married with children or teenagers in the home. Many are military and most of the others are employed in either governmental or political professions. So South Run is geared by God to be what they need and to express who they are. All adult ministries are dedicated to strengthening adults in their faith and in relationship with God and each other.
- Women's Ministry is led by Joanne Gordon. This is an active element of South Run. There are several weekly Bible studies and small groups for women, plus there are monthly coffees, women's nights out, annual retreats, teas and seminars.
- Men's Ministry seeks to grow men, like King David in the Old Testament, who are men after God's own heart who have other trusted men with whom they prayerfully meet the demands and challenges of life. This is accomplished through small groups, mentoring, area midday lunch groups, seminars and Bible studies.
Bible Teaching Ministry
Sunday School is the starting place for fellowship and Bible teaching at South Run. Sunday School meets at 9:45 on Sunday mornings and offers classes for all ages from birth through adult. The first way to connect with others at South Run is to join a Sunday School class.
Small Group Ministry
Small groups are multiplying at South Run. They meet at convenient times and locations for group members. Although each group attains them in different ways, small groups aim for life-changing relationships and deep spiritual growth. Leaders for Truth Project small groups are being trained; these groups launch in the fall of 2007.
Recreation Ministry
Led by Scott Yow, this ministry goes in many directions. South Run is a vitalized congregation. Something is always happening. Groups and ministries are decentralized and empowered, so the fun is unlimited. There are two softball teams every spring and summer. Throughout the year there are church wide trips, events and excursions such as hiking, camping, concerts, and theatre.
College Ministry
A Life Group for college students meets on Monday nights at 7:00. College students are an important part of the family at South Run. College students at South Run enjoy ample ministry and mission opportunities.
Youth Ministry
South Run embraces youth like few churches anywhere. Youth are treated with respect; they are trusted and mentored. There is no division between the value of an adult and the value of a youth. Youth receive ministry, but they are also equipped and released to serve. Youth ministry is guided by a devoted team of lay persons who are determined that every youth receives and gives as envisioned by God. D.O.G. (Disciples of God) Pound is a youth time of worship, discipleship, recreation and small groups that meets on Sundays at 6:00 PM. See our Upcoming Events.
Children's Ministry
We LOVE kids! From hanging out in the pastor's office to age-appropriate Christian education, children have a unique place at South Run. Children are celebrated and loved. Sunday school, children's sermon, children's church, Wednesday night mission groups, Vacation Bible School, CentriKid Camp, and special seasonal events barely give a taste of all that children encounter at South Run. The Children's Ministry is led by a magnificent team of volunteers who are supremely invested in the spiritual advantage of children.
Intern Ministry
Every Summer South Run calls a summer intern who is a college or seminary student to give extra attention to youth and children's ministries for ten weeks. This ministry has an excellent success rate at South Run and is a tradition dating from the beginning of the church. The intern adds focus and energy. We anticipate expanding the intern ministry beyond the six months of the summer because it is a valuable way to train future ministers.
Deacon Ministry
Deacons at South Run are ministers, they meet needs and they take care of duties that if unmet would hinder the Body of Christ. Every family in the church is assigned a deacon. The deacons regularly contact the families to stay informed and in touch, so they can respond as needed. Deacons also plan activities for their family groupings. Dinners, game nights; whatever it takes to generate belonging and affection.
Other Ministries
South Run has a variety of other ministries from which you can receive and through which you can give. South Run is a ministering place. Life-changing relationships await you at South Run.
